Debra Spizzo

Principal Solicitor & Barrister

While working at a major law firm in Adelaide, Debra positioned the firm to be a major stakeholder in legal action before the Federal Court of Australia in relation to the proceedings against Johnson & Johnson and DePuy International for the provision of a faulty hip system received by 6,000 Australians. Further, Debra was the primary point of contact for staff at the Department for Education and Child Development (DECD) in South Australia, who were considering civil proceedings in the Federal Magistrates Court, Family Court, Supreme Court, District Court and Magistrates Court in South Australia.

In 2015, after working many years for well-known law firms in Adelaide, Debra was approached to establish the Women’s Domestic Violence Court Assistance Service.  This is a state wide legal service assisting women and children that are affected by family and domestic abuse, the first of it's kind in SA.

Debra has extensive experience in Family Law, Wills, Estates and Family Violence, although experienced throughout most areas of practice. With a wealth of knowledge and experience gained in major Adelaide law firms, and after the set up of a much needed domestic violence service, Debra used her expertise to set up her own practice. Debra is passionate about receiving a just outcome for her clients, no matter the complexity.

Debra has gained post-graduate qualifications as a Collaborative Practitioner, which is complemented by her previous background as a Registered Nurse and Counselor. In her spare time, Debra enjoys Pilates, walking her dogs and spending time with her husband and two adult sons.
